FOR SOPRANO SAXOPHONE (4”)

Programme Note

Voices is constructed from two musical voices that converse with one another. Inspired by the way in which we interact with our innermost, subconscious voice, sometimes positively and sometimes negatively, the lower harmonic structure at first supports the upper melodic line.

As the piece progresses, the voices become more interwoven, until these ideas are released into a more agitated and restless passage. This momentum gradually fades as the two original voices return, but this time more separated and distant from one another.
